Christoph is Chief Research & Sustainability Officer and Head of the Research, Engagement & Sustainability team at the Swiss Re Institute. As a team we have two core mandates: 1. We translate foresight and market intelligence into UW insights and new commercial capabilities. 2. We advance SR’s sustainability strategy, positioning, and reporting.
As part of the Swiss Re Institute we support the firm in navigating a volatile world through partnerships, innovation, risk insights and foresights. The Institute identifies trends, develops business opportunities and conducts research. In doing so, the Institute strongly positions Swiss Re as a risk insights and solutions provider that fosters greater societal and financial resilience.
The Institute leads Swiss Re's sustainability strategy, supporting decarbonisation and other sustainable practices across our business and reporting on sustainability progress and communicating Swiss Re's sustainability position to an external audience.
The Swiss Re Institute places great importance in understanding and anticipating future business risks and opportunities. The Institute produces the industry-leading SONAR Emerging Risk Report, based on our group wide risk and opportunity foresight process, which monitors and prioritizes the shifting risk landscape.
The Institutes bespoke training programmes provide executives of clients a fresh look at risk and insurance by granting access to experts, interaction with Swiss Re's executives and support insights that will help them to develop their business.
Christoph started at Swiss Re in 2002 and held several research and business functions. Most recently he headed Life & Behaviour R&D in Group Underwriting and before was Head Business Development at the Centre for Global Dialogue and served Global Life & Health Underwriting in various underwriting roles.
Prior to Swiss Re he was a postdoctoral research fellow in genomics at Harvard University. He received a diploma in biochemistry from the University of Basel and a PhD in molecular genetics from the University of Freiburg in Switzerland.
